about

Creatively bypassing all musical boundaries through a fresh artistic vision, Entropy Ensemble fuses musical traditions and presents, as a result, performances that are unique, inspiring and always intense. Their Radiohead Project, a fresh and ingenious exploration of the band's cutting-edge music, has attracted flocks of diverse audiences to their consistently sold-out shows.

It’s the concept that entices the audience and it’s the show that keeps them coming back for more. The true success of this group is in the incredible stage presence of its players, the virtuosic musicianship and the inspiring craftsmanship of the arrangements. EE performances are, simply put, dynamic.

The unique instrumental ensemble is the brainchild of Charlestonian Andrew Walker (pianist) in collaboration with renowned violinist Javier Orman. The core ensemble also includes other Charleston talents: Ben Wells (stand-up bass), Lonnie Root (cello), Stuart White (percussion) as well as a rotating collective of musicians (flute, harpsichord, more percussion and a ten-piece choir) that are presented as per program.

Throughout 2010 Entropy Ensemble toured with Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Skylar Grey along with Grammy and Tony award winning artist Duncan Sheik performing to sold-out theatres, PACs, roadhouses, clubs, halls and churches.

In November 2010, Entropy Ensemble wrote, produced, directed and performed a multimedia production in collaboration with Annex Dance Company and world-renowned pianist and host of NPR’s From the Top, Christopher O’Riley, as well as student vocalists, dancers, choreographers and animators, with music of Radiohead, Debussy and J.S. Bach (Ciaccona for solo violin). The production was witnessed by more than 1200 people.

Entropy Ensemble evolved out of the success of a few experimental concerts put on by Walker. In 2007, he produced “Musical Reworkings of Radiohead,” which featured instrumental arrangements of the music of Radiohead for various instrumental ensembles including piano, cello, violin, flute, vibraphone and choir. The concert, which packed a 350-cap recital hall, was a tremendous success and inspired Walker to produce a sequel concert the following year. “Fitter Happier” was a much larger production that also featured original instrumental arrangements of Radiohead but for an extensive ensemble including: two pianos, two cellos, violin, double bass, flute, choir and 2 percussionists. The concert drew a sold-out crowd of 850 people to the historic Sottile Theatre.
